edci 306 Music – Blog post 1, Sweet Home Alabama

So far I have been practicing daily (almost) and learned the chords for Sweet Home Alabama using https://musicplayonline.com/guitar/. To learn to play the guitar I broke my learning up into stages, first learning how to tune the guitar, learning basic scale, learning how to pluck, learning how to strum,  then learning how to form the chords. I can now play each of the chords in Sweet Home Alabama and transfer between them.

Here is a video of me learning the G-Scale, most of the learning from this came with help from my roommate who has a basic knowledge of the guitar.

After learning the scale I learned how to pluck the guitar with a pick using this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OPi_BzkMig&ab_channel=MarkTheGuitarGuy from Mark the Guitar Guy. I found this video really useful in learning how to pluck individual strings up and down for a better cleaner sound. I then applied this method to my G-scale.

My next step was to learn the fingerings for the chords in Sweet Home Alabama which I found on Music Play online. Below is a graphic I made showing me forming the G, D, and C chords

My goal for next week is to be able to play the chords to sweet home Alabama and work on editing together my practice videos.
